Missionaries can also be called undershepherds, meaning they work under the authority of the Good Shepherd, Jesus. The missionaries in the Dominican Republic are serving as faithful undershepherds to some of Jesus’ little lambs, children with disabilities. In 2010, LCMS missionaries and local Dominican Lutherans opened Good Shepherd Lutheran Home for children with special needs. The children and their families now receive some of the additional care they need. The missionaries and local church members work to assist with providing their physical and intellectual needs, as well as nourishing them with faithful preaching and teaching about Christ, the Good Shepherd.
